Noob is not producing, and has not been for years
Start with the part most listings leave out. Noob wound down through late 2021 and was gone as a producing workshop by 2022. Anything sold today under the Noob name is old stock, a rebadged piece from another workshop, or a seller using a famous name because it still gets searched.
That is not a scandal. It is the normal life cycle here. What makes Noob worth a page is that it set the standard everyone else now builds against, and its work did not vanish with it.
What Noob Factory actually did
Before Noob, a replica Rolex was a decent case wrapped around a generic automatic. Noob was the first workshop to treat the movement as the product, and the piece that proved it was the Daytona.
The Dandong 4130 they developed was a clone of Rolex’s own chronograph calibre rather than a 7750 dressed to look like one. That distinction sounds academic until you use it. The 7750 stacks its chronograph works on top of the base movement, which pushes the sub dials into the wrong positions and gives the pushers a soft, long travel. A cloned 4130 puts the sub dials where Rolex puts them and gives the pushers the short crisp action the original has.
Their Submariner work was the other pillar. Noob ceramic bezel inserts and case profiles were the reference point for years, and a great deal of what the market now takes for granted on a Submariner replica was worked out there first.
Why did Noob Factory shut down?
Prominence. This trade runs on staying small enough to be uninteresting, and Noob became the most recognised name in it. Once a workshop is famous, enforcement attention and supplier caution arrive together, and production becomes impossible long before anybody kicks a door in.
The wind down was gradual rather than sudden. Output slowed through late 2021, quality became inconsistent, and by early 2022 the buyers who wanted the best Daytona had moved elsewhere.
Where the Noob work went
This is the useful part, and it is why the Noob question keeps being asked.
The 4130 programme did not die. It moved to Clean Factory, which spent 2022 and 2023 as the undisputed leader on Rolex sports references off the back of it. Clean was then raided in July 2025 and stopped producing in turn, and the people behind its best Daytona work moved on again.
So the lineage runs Noob, then Clean, then the workshops trading now. Anyone shopping for what Noob used to represent should be looking at a current Daytona from a live Daytona specialist, not for the Noob name.
Is a Noob watch still worth buying?
An original piece in good condition is a fine watch and was excellent for its day. Two cautions apply.
Parts are the first. A workshop that no longer exists supplies nothing, so a broken bezel insert or a failed chronograph module on an old Noob is a problem a live workshop’s piece would not have.
The name is the second, and it costs more people money. Noob is the single most abused label in this market precisely because it is the most searched. A listing offering a brand new Noob in 2026 is offering something else.
How to tell a real Noob claim from a lazy one
- Ask when it was produced. A seller who cannot answer is not handling an original.
- Ask what is inside. On a Daytona the answer should be a 4130 clone. A 7750 answer means the piece is not what the listing says.
- Ask what they would sell you instead. An honest shop will steer you to a current workshop, because that is the better watch. A shop that insists on the Noob name is selling the name.
