The moonphase is a small printing job

The moon should have a clean circular edge and the stars should be distinct points rather than specks. Ask for a macro of the aperture. It is a small detail that reveals the factory’s ceiling.

Tapisserie under a crowded dial

The grid still has to run correctly underneath all of this, passing behind the subdials without breaking rhythm. Where a register interrupts the pattern, the squares should resume on the far side in the same phase, as though the grid continues under the subdial. Poor clones restart the pattern arbitrarily, and once you look for it you cannot stop seeing it.

Set the calendar carefully

Perpetual calendars have restricted setting windows, and forcing a correction while the date mechanism is engaged can damage it. If the piece arrives unset, advance it slowly and avoid adjusting between roughly nine in the evening and three in the morning.
