The Royal Oak Chronograph adds three registers and two pushers to a design that was drawn without them. That tension is the interesting part: the tapisserie grid has to survive being interrupted, and the case has to carry pushers without breaking the octagonal line. Where the grid meets the subdials

The tapisserie squares run across the dial and the three registers cut into them. On a well made piece the grid continues around each subdial without distortion, keeping the same square size and the same phase on both sides. Cheap artwork compresses the pattern near the registers to make it fit, and the result is a grid that looks stretched in some places and squashed in others. Compare the pattern directly above and directly below the six o’clock subdial.

Pusher integration

The pushers have to emerge from a case whose defining feature is a clean octagonal geometry. Look at where each pusher meets the case: the gap should be even all the way round and the pusher should sit at a right angle to the case side rather than tilting. Then check the crown and pushers as a group. They should be aligned on a common axis, and a pusher sitting visibly higher or lower than the crown is a frequent assembly flaw.

Chronograph function

Confirm the chronograph actually runs and resets cleanly to zero. All three hands should snap back to their zero positions together when the reset pusher is pressed. Hands that stop one or two ticks short are common and permanent, and once you notice it on your own watch you will see it every time you look down.
